The Kinema in the Woods

I had my first experience of this quaint little Cinema when I was about 5 years old to see Watership Down with my grandmother

Only a few miles away from where I grew up, the old fashioned Kinema was a regular visit to see the latest movies

Nestled in the woods at Woodhall Spa, it always attracted crowds and has been going since 1922

All the years I have frequented the Kinema in the Woods, it has still had that special place in my heart

My parents have both been going for years and remember when the front section was deck chairs

I’ve dragged friends and colleagues there from far away, and they have been in love with the Kinema too

The Organ even comes out of the floor in the interval

I was over the moon when I heard that they were having an open day, with a chance to see behind the scenes

including the projector room

I love also seeing all of the old rolls of footage

And a vintage telephone in the back room.

I was loving every minute seeing behind the scenes

We even had the chance to see the in house Organist Alan Underwood

Not only did we hear the organ play but we then had a chance to pop in to the organ chamber

Pipes everywhere

The Old fashioned Kinema always remains my first choice to watch a film.

If it’s a multiplex or the Kinema…this wins hands down!

I also loved seeing the Singer Sewing Machine nestled away for any last minute repairs

And a classic motor car

Haberdashery Closet Opening

Since moving to our new office at the Craft Workshops, customers have wanted to pop in to view our range and top up their ribbon supplies.  It has been frustrating not being allowed to open to the public, however after months of negotiations, we’ve been allowed by our local council to open our doors for 2 mornings a week.

After getting the wonderful news, it’s been a race against time to get everything prepared ready for the grand opening on September 12th!

The ‘Haberdashery Closet’ will be open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 10am-1pm.

Due to the strict council guidelines we sadly can’t accept any other visits (however you can always browse the range online from the comfort of your own armchair at home!)

Other than the 1000’s of ribbons, customers will be able to choose from our lovely handmade papers, old fashioned tags, cellophane and those hard to find wrapping accessories.

Whilst leisurely browsing the collections, customers will be able to enjoy cloudy lemonade and sweets!

Parking is right outside the door, and if you haven’t got wheels the Haberdashery Closet is only 2 miles from Lincoln City Centre and the Railway Station. (The Number 1 bus between Lincoln and Grantham goes right past the door!)

If you would like an invitation to the opening and sale on September 12th please email us at

On a final note I always wanted a sweety shop, but I guess in my case it’s ribbons x

Rich Handmade Papers from India

I started travelling from a very early age and discovered wonderful papers around the world.

One of my favourite papers are the vibrant handprinted sheets from India.

Rich in colour and design, these papers give a gift the luxurious factor

Subtle colours mixed with metallic hints, flock and glitter…

Hot colours with rich baroque detailing…

I love sea green and rich turquoise, vibrant, colourful and rich…

Blended with some hot reds which are perfect for a Valentine or Christmas gift

Already magazines have been crying out for these papers in their shoots, so they will be available by the sheet  in our Haberdashery Closet.  They will also be added to our new online site later in the year.

We also love using these rich papers on our Gift Wrapping Courses (they make great envelopes and gift bags).  If you wrap any presents using these luxury papers please send us a photo.
