I had my first experience of this quaint little Cinema when I was about 5 years old to see Watership Down with my grandmother
Only a few miles away from where I grew up, the old fashioned Kinema was a regular visit to see the latest movies
Nestled in the woods at Woodhall Spa, it always attracted crowds and has been going since 1922
All the years I have frequented the Kinema in the Woods, it has still had that special place in my heart
My parents have both been going for years and remember when the front section was deck chairs
I’ve dragged friends and colleagues there from far away, and they have been in love with the Kinema too
The Organ even comes out of the floor in the interval
I was over the moon when I heard that they were having an open day, with a chance to see behind the scenes
including the projector room
I love also seeing all of the old rolls of footage
And a vintage telephone in the back room.
I was loving every minute seeing behind the scenes
We even had the chance to see the in house Organist Alan Underwood
Not only did we hear the organ play but we then had a chance to pop in to the organ chamber
The Old fashioned Kinema always remains my first choice to watch a film.
If it’s a multiplex or the Kinema…this wins hands down!
I also loved seeing the Singer Sewing Machine nestled away for any last minute repairs
And a classic motor car
