Creative ideas to hang pictures with ribbon
I love my home and I’m always looking at ways to introduce luxurious ribbon and trimmings, so my latest blog post is ‘Creative ideas to hang pictures with ribbon’

Curtain Rods and Ribbons
Hanging a picture can be as simple as hammering a nail into a wall and hooking the picture wire or fixing hook over the nail. This is a perfect way to hang a framed photograph or favourite work of art. However, if you wish to get a little more creative and use pictures as inspirational props for interior design details, here are a few suggestions.

Curtain rods/poles are great for hanging curtains, but a well-chosen pole with beautiful finials, strategically fixed to the wall, where you wish a series of smaller pictures to go, can provide a beautiful feature of family photographs. You can even paint the poles to match the colour of your ribbon
The picture frames can be suspended with ribbon, in various ways, and tied to the curtain pole with big bows or simple loops. The ribbon width, texture and colour can be chosen to compliment your décor and can really help to make a bold statement with this simple, yet highly effective solution to multiple picture grouping. If desired, additional ribbons can be tied at the ends of the poles just inside the finials.
One central length of ribbon can be folded in half, secured in place with a couple of short screws or tacks on the frame and then tied onto the pole at the chosen height or long loops of ribbon can be secured to each of the two top corners of the frame with the open ends of the loop attached to the frame and the loops slotted over the pole.
You can also stitch your ribbon loops with a sewing machine
Pictures can also be suspended at varying or uniform heights along the pole, it is entirely up to you.

Alternatively you could hang wreaths during the festive season for a dramatic statement

You could even use chains for an industrial effect
Ribbon Suspension Deception
Of course you cannot hang your substantial framed pictures on flimsy ribbon. That would not be practical, nor safe.
However, if you secure lengths of ribbon to the wall with double sided tape and attach a beautifully tied ribbon to the top of each strip of ribbon, picture pins can be hammered through the centre of the ribbon at each picture hanging point and, once hung, the pictures will look as if they are magically suspended from the ribbon.
Whether you are hanging one ribbon or a series of three or more ribbons, to make a feature on a staircase or on along a wall, the drama of the effect will be defined by the width, texture and colour of the ribbon you select. This is a beautiful way to hang pictures in a bedroom or nursery but if you use wide, black ribbon on white walls, with a mixture of black frame designs and sizes or vibrant colours of ribbon on a feature wall, with funky frames and bold pictures, you can really make a personal and stylish statement.

For added embellishment, place extra bows snuggly over or directly below each picture on the ribbon.
Hanging around
Ribbon can be used to hang other decorative items on walls around the house. Hanging letters on a nursery wall to spell out your baby’s name, either directly onto picture pins or onto a wall mounted curtain pole with either blue or pink gingham ribbon makes a beautiful and personal feature.
Hanging simple, empty, glassless picture frames using ribbon that has been looped through the top edge of the frame is a modern yet rustic way to embellish a wall without any pictures at all. The frame and ribbon choices are the focus of this idea and when several frames of varying size and design are hung together, the effect is very distinctive.

We love this idea where pictures have been overlapped an hung off knobs in a bedroom
Seating Plan
If you’re having a party or getting married, ribbon can be stapled in to the back of a decorative frame and the plans can be easily stuck on the ribbon with a glue gun or sticky foam pads (available from craft shops). This is also a great way of displaying Christmas cards
